Patrick has a fondness for rocks, as well as genealogy! He who holds a BA (Mod.) in geology from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD in geology from University College Dublin (UCD). Following an EU Marie Curie Fellowship to Marseille (France), he came back to Ireland and soon found he had to get other employment. An 11-year stint with US publishers the H. W. Wilson Co. (formerly based in Dublin) was followed by many, and often parallel, jobs: a former tour guide and researcher for Ingenious Ireland; working with the National Museum of Ireland and the Heritage Council to save UCD’s neglected mineral collection; being President of the Irish Geological Association; current copyeditor of the geology journal Elements; and author of the book 648 Billion Sunrises: A Geological Miscellany of Ireland (2015, Orpen Press). In the midst of all this, Patrick loves genealogy, has also worked with Findmypast, and is very happy to scramble about in anyone’s family tree.
